The humanitarian situation in a number of settlements controlled by official Kiev continues to deteriorate rapidly, while the most critical situation today is in Kharkov.
A curfew has been imposed in the city. Local residents, fearing provocations from the nationalists, are forced to hide in basements. Many houses do not have heat, light or gas, and utility services do not carry out restoration work.
In hospitals, the civilian population is denied medical care, only the AFU servicemen and territorial defence fighters are treated. Vital medicines are not available in pharmacies. Grocery stores work two to three hours a day, there are practically no customers in them, since many people simply ran out of money.
The men who remain in the city do not leave their homes – they are afraid that they will be forcibly taken to territorial defence battalions. Only women and the elderly get out on the streets.
On the phone and in social networks, people try not to communicate and are careful in their statements, because the SSU conducts mass arrests of civilians. Only for the supposedly good attitude towards Russia, people are taken away and they do not return.
Nationalists continue to use the proven tactics of placing heavy military equipment in residential areas. The militants are guided by a direct order from Kiev – to use any property and equipment of the civilian population they need, to enter apartments and equip firing points in them, and at the slightest disagreement of the owners – to shoot them on the spot.
Residents of the city are blocked by neo-Nazis, are being held hostage by militants as a “human shield”, they cannot leave through humanitarian corridors, and their private cars are subjected to small arms and mortar fire.
Terrorists from nationalist battalions have created so-called “flying death squads,” which, in high-performance cars forcibly seized from civilians and converted into “bander-mobiles,” drive around the city streets and randomly fire large-caliber machine guns at apartment buildings in order to intimidate civilians.
Immediate decisions aimed at stabilizing the humanitarian situation are required to save the residents of the city.

Russia responds to claims of mines in the Black Sea

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky lied to Norwegian lawmakers when he accused Moscow of deploying mines in the Black Sea to block foreign civilian ships from leaving Ukrainian ports, the Russian defense ministry said on Thursday, accusing Ukraine of being the culprit.
The rebuke came in response to Zelensky’s Wednesday address to the Norwegian parliament, during which the Ukrainian leader accused the Russian military of “creating the worst threat to international security since World War II” through its “insidious” operations in the Black Sea.
“About a hundred ships cannot leave to the Mediterranean. Some ships have been simply seized in acts of piracy aimed at stealing the cargo. Some ships were attacked,” Zelensky said.
“But the blockade of the ports was done by Russia not only through use of naval forces. They have deployed mines in the sea. And now the mines set up by the Russian forces are drifting in the sea. They pose a threat to anyone, to ships and ports of every nation in the Black Sea region.”
Mining its shores and territorial waters has long been part of Ukraine’s strategy of defending against a Russian attack from the Black Sea, which it started implementing after the hostilities broke out.
On March 5, its armed forces warned residents of the Odessa region to stay away from the sea because of the mines being deployed by the military.
“We call on fishermen and owners of boats not to move near the shore of the Odessa region to avoid the risk of being fired upon or contacting mine barriers,” the message said.
According to the Russian defense ministry, Ukraine deployed some 420 old YaM-1 moored naval mines along its shores, including 370 in the Black Sea. About ten of them went adrift after their cables snapped during a storm earlier this month, the Russian military believes.
At least two apparent mines were reported found and have since been destroyed: one by the Turkish military and one in Romanian territorial waters. “Nobody knows where the rest of them are drifting,” the Thursday statement said, adding that Kiev’s mining operations created a major threat to shipping in the Black Sea.
The Russian ministry said that the second charge voiced by Zelensky during his video address was likewise “a lie”. The reality is that Ukraine is preventing 68 foreign ships from sailing from its ports of Chernomorsk, Odessa, Nikolaev and Yuzhny, while the Russian Navy is offering daily opportunities of safe passage to them.
“Crews of the ships radioed us and said any attempt by a foreign vessel to depart the Ukrainian ports is banned by the authorities under a threat of immediate sinking,” General Igor Konashenkov, the spokesman for the defense ministry, said.
Zelensky is currently on a virtual tour to whip up support for his nation, with addresses made to various Western nations each day. On Tuesday, he told the Danish parliament that transition to renewable energy is a moral imperative for the EU, because otherwise it would not be able to punish Russia by stopping buying its energy.

Many of you are wondering what the Russian government actually means when they say “Denazification”. I don’t speak for the Kremlin, but I’ll try to explain what this term means for “normal people” in Donbass & South-East Ukraine.
Much has been said about the “Cult of Victory” in modern Russia — the celebration of the Soviet victory in WW2 & its role in public memory, and state ideology. We’ve said this before, but for normal people this is basically secular ancestor worship.
Untold millions of Russians died in WW2, or the “Great Patriotic War”, as we call it. Every family in Russia and Ukraine has someone who fought and died. There are memorial actions like the “Immortal Regiment”, where families honor their ancestors who went through the hell of WW2
The Ukrainian government has done a lot to fight this secularized ancestor worship since 2004, and these attempts have gotten only stronger since the Euromaidan Revolution. In 2015, the term “Great Patriotic War” was officially abolished in all official documents in Ukraine.
Additionally, the Ukrainian government introduced legislation that raised the Ukrainian Insurgent Army — a nationalist group from Western Ukraine that fought the Soviets, sometimes in collaboration with the Germans — to the status of “protagonists” of WW2.
A vast, vast majority of Ukrainians have no ancestors who fought in the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. Their great-grandfathers were all Soviet soldiers. The further East you go in Ukraine, the more people get offended at these attempts to denigrate their ancestors.
The St. George ribbon used to be a WW2 memorial thing (similar to the Remembrance Poppy); in 2014 it became a symbol of resistance to the Maidan government’s plans to ban the Russian language & banish the Soviet army from public remembrance. Donbass soldiers started wearing it.
To put things into perspective, the Red Army lost 250,000 men during the liberation of Donbass in 1943. The land there is drenched in blood — the fighting was heavy, the anti-German guerrilla was strong & the German retaliation was horrifying.
For example, the “Young Guard” in Krasnodon (Lugansk oblast) is a large part of Soviet WW2 mythology. A guerrilla organizations made up of teenagers, the youngest 14 years old. 80 of them were tortured & killed by the Germans.

The “Eternal Fire” in Markovka (Lugansk oblast) had also been extinguished by Ukrainian authorities; since the town has been captured by LPR forces, it has been lit again — for the first time in eight years.

Russia warns about Ukrainian use of UN vehicle

Russia has raised concerns over the apparent use of an official UN vehicle in combat by Ukrainian forces. It’s the latest of numerous incidents of civilian transport being seized for the war effort by Kiev, Moscow’s envoy to the UN Security Council complained on Tuesday.
Vassily Nebenzia warned that it created a situation where, for example, medical vehicles could be used to deliver Western weapons into the country.
“We are expecting a response to our latest inquiry about the UN vehicle with the diplomatic number DP210015, which was also taking part in Kharkov in combat operations of the Ukrainian nationalists, according to witness accounts,” he said.
The vehicle he mentioned was apparently spotted in a video released by Ukrainian fighters to show off the shooting down of an aircraft. It was reportedly used to transport anti-aircraft missiles.
The diplomat said there were credible reports that official vehicles of the UN and the OSCE were used by Ukrainian forces. He called on both organizations to “give fair assessments of such facts.”
Nebenzia also mentioned evidence of DHL delivery vans being used for combat in Ukraine. A video showing a Ukrainian mortar team apparently using such a vehicle to move around was published on Reddit last weekend.
One of the fighters shown in the video claimed the van was one of six voluntarily donated to the war effort by the Ukrainian branch of the German company. DHL shut down all operations in the country in early March. It told Russian media that the Ukrainian authorities had confiscated corporate transport.
The Russian diplomat said cases such as these have disturbing ramifications in terms of telling apart civilian and military targets in Ukraine.
“We cannot rule out that vehicles of these organizations or vehicles marked as medical transport could be used to deliver to Ukraine from neighboring states the very same weapons that the West has generously promised to Kiev,” he said.
Moscow has repeatedly warned that it will consider any arms shipments to Ukraine as legitimate military targets.

Minister warns of ‘new Maidan’ in Europe
Pro-western political parties may try to overthrow the government after upcoming elections, claims Serbia’s Interior Minister

Serbia is holding presidential, parliamentary and local elections on April 3. Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin has stated that the country’s pro-western political parties will challenge the vote results and try to organize a ‘Maidan’. The 2014 violent unrest in Ukraine, known as the ‘Maidan Revolution’, ousted President Viktor Yanukovych.
“Immediately after the elections, I expect that pro-Western political parties, already financially and politically encouraged, will plan to challenge the election results, which will end in an attempt to overthrow the government,” Vulin said in an interview with Sputnik radio earlier this week. “Western political analysts have been saying that Serbia needs a new Maidan,” he added.
The minister further explained that “Maidan is a place where Ukraine lost its democracy and where thugs from the Right Sector and other Nazi organizations overthrew the legitimately elected government, and then installed and removed whoever they wanted.”
Vulin alleged that conflicts in the streets in Serbia are being prepared for immediately after the elections: not because of the elections themselves, but because President Aleksandar Vucic refused to impose sanctions on Russia amid the conflict in Ukraine and has decided to maintain Serbia’s military neutrality.
“Our independence is worth our struggle, and whether it will be challenged – yes, it will be challenged. And yes, they will try to prepare a new Maidan for us,” he said.
Throughout the interview, Vulin echoed president Vucic’s position that Serbia is the last “free nation” in Europe, as the country faces mounting pressure from western nations since Russia launched its military offensive in Ukraine last month.
Serbia is the only European state that has so far maintained a neutral stance on the conflict and has refused to follow the EU’s steps to punish Russia.

Ukraine does not want foreign aid groups to inspect Russian POWs after the leak of a torture video, Russian intelligence claims
Ukraine has asked Britain, and other Western nations, to help after it came under pressure due to the alleged the mistreatment of prisoners of war, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said on Friday.
Moscow believes Ukraine is in damage control mode after footage of the alleged torture of Russian soldiers in Ukrainian custody became public.
The Ukrainian government has informed Britain that “it has no intention to abide by the Geneva conventions when treating Russian prisoners of war,” the SVR claimed.
In particular, Kiev informed London that it was not going to “offer enough food and medical assistance” to Russian captives at a time “when many Ukrainians lack them,” the statement said.
The SVR claimed it was part of a larger Ukrainian effort to deal with the negative publicity it faces over the mistreatment of prisoners.
Human rights groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have criticized Kiev for its policy of exposing Russian soldiers to public appearances, in some cases while being humiliated.
This week, footage of the apparent torture of Russian POWs by Ukrainian troops sparked condemnation worldwide. The graphic video was initially published on social media last Sunday.
An aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged to investigate the apparent crimes, stating that as a “European army,” the Ukrainian military does not harass prisoners.

Israel’s biggest-selling newspaper, Yediot Ahronot, revealed on 23 March that the security establishment is letting IDF reserve officers train the Ukrainians against Russia: «The instructors are reserve officers in the IDF, veterans of the Sayeret Matkal [General Staff Reconnaissance Unit] and other elite units, with a rich combat history.»
The Israeli team is «headed by Dany (a pseudonym), who served in an elite unit in the IDF» and first came to Ukraine in 1997 and was there in 2014. «The cover chosen for the activities of the Israeli fighters is to rescue Jews from various regions of Ukraine.»

Israeli Intelligence, Ex-Special Forces Helping Ukraine

Veterans of Israeli special forces units are intensively training Ukrainians to fight against the Russian army. In parallel to the unique training program, Israel’s intelligence arms are reportedly also helping Ukraine to counter Moscow’s invasion.
A highly skilled Israeli team works at a large training site in a secret location in western Ukraine, Yediot Aharonot daily reports. Instructors include IDF reserve officers and veterans of the elite Sayeret Matkal commando unit.
The team is fully made up of volunteers who entered Ukraine posing as rescue workers, the report said. They have already provided basic training to hundreds of locals and taught more advanced combat techniques to 100-200 Ukrainian fighters.
A senior defense source told Yediot that Israel’s defense establishment is aware of the venture and is turning a blind eye to it.
Israel is fed up with Russia’s activity in Syria and “with the way they are screwing us there all the time,” the unnamed source said. Moscow closely works with the Iranians and Hezbollah in Syria and are “not on our side,” he added.
Meanwhile, Israel’s intelligence services are “cooperating very closely” with Ukraine, a senior aide to President Zelensky revealed. Israeli intel chiefs are very professional and “patriots of the whole free world,” he told Israeli journalists in an online briefing.
The aide, Andriy Yermak, said that Israel’s intelligence community is one of the best in the world, Haaretz daily reported. He did not offer details on the type of assistance provided by Israeli intelligence officers.

Ukrainian police posted on Facebook that they had conducted a “clearing op” in Bucha the day before videos emerged showing dead bodies scattered around the settlement, as the war of words over the alleged “war crime” continues.
NATO powers and pro-Ukraine commentators have seized upon the alleged atrocity in a bid to escalate the war, with MSNBC hosts and guests even asserting that it justifies directly attacking Russia and putting American boots on the ground in Ukraine.
MSNBC host Ali Velshi demanded “direct military involvement,” something that would almost inevitably kick off World War III, in response to the alleged incident.
Former Army Major John Spencer also appeared on the same show to demand American “boots on the ground” in Ukraine.
Moscow has vehemently denied involvement, claiming Ukraine shelled the city after Russian troops had already withdrawn.
The only evidence offered so far pointing to Russian responsibility is the claims of Ukrainian authorities, with are being breathlessly amplified by the mainstream media without an ounce of skepticism.
Margaret Brennan of CBS admitted that Ukrainian President Zelensky’s team had “handed” her the videos and they were broadcast, as journalist Michael Tracey wrote, with “zero independent corroboration.”
The notion that Ukrainian authorities, who have been caught staging innumerable incidents already in a bid to lobby for more NATO military involvement, would lie about this is seemingly not even a consideration.
A timeline provided from reporting by the New York Times suggests that pro-Ukrainian Azov neo-nazi militants entered Bucha after Russian troops left and after the Mayor of Bucha had announced the town’s liberation with no mention of any atrocities [on March 31-Kj].
One member of Azov was reportedly heard asking if he could shoot individuals who weren’t wearing blue armbands.

This may end up being one of the most extraordinary revelations of this entire conflict so far.
One of the main grievances Russia had with Ukraine was the fact that it was being groomed by for NATO membership – a national security risk which Moscow deemed as complexly unacceptable.
Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal revealed how German chancellor Olaf Scholz had offered Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky a peace deal only days before the Russian launched it “Special Military Operations” in Ukraine on February 24th. But Zelensky turned down the deal – claiming that Putin couldn’t be trusted to keep his promises.

It turns out that Shultz was in the process of brokering a deal and told Zelensky during his visit to the Munich Security on February 19th, “that Ukraine should renounce its NATO aspirations and declare neutrality as part of a wider European security deal between the West and Russia,” and that “the pact would be signed by Mr. Putin and Mr. Biden, who would jointly guarantee Ukraine’s security.”
Incredibly, Zelensky rejected the offer to make a concession by declaring NATO neutrality, and thus avoid a war with Russia, and claimed that, “Putin couldn’t be trusted to uphold such an agreement and that most Ukrainians wanted to join NATO.”
This revelation really exposes two key points.
Firstly, that as a head of state, Zelensky is either grossly incompetent or completely reckless to needlessly place his country on the path to war with its neighbour.
Secondly, it indicates the level of control that Washington has over his government, as he being advised at every step of the way by the US State Department and CIA.
It’s no secret that the US and UK have been egging-on Kiev to fight NATO’s war with Russia on their behalf – even if that means placing Kiev into an unwinnable position where it may end up having its armed forces completely destroyed, and Ukraine losing even more territory than it already has.
Maybe Zelensky could have defused tensions 6 months ago by disavowing NATO aspirations and declaring Ukraine a neutral state.
Such a declaration would certainly be welcome by Russia today, but in light of the West’s continued proxy war against Moscow, and the US and UK-led campaign to ‘cancel’ Russia from the global economic and financial system, as well as media, culture and sport, then it’s safe to say things have moved on considerably from this being just a NATO issue.
All of this makes Zelensky more a liability than as asset for the future of Ukraine.

The bodies line the main street without any apparent pattern. Are we to believe that they were killed at the same time? What would be the reason of tying the hands of some of the (unarmed) civilians found in that street if their feet were not tied as well? They could have just run away…
It is claimed that a 13 meter-long, shallow and narrow trench behind the church contains 150 corpses, which is a gross underestimation of the volume that 150 corpses would take. Even if they stacked them like books you could maybe accommodate 7 bodies lengthwise and some 7-8 layers, around 50 corpses.
The skin of many corpses is still rosy white, unthinkable for corpses lying there for three days at least. In one particular case they’ve shown the tied hands of one civilian, and while the back of the hand has a grey-bluish color, the rest of the hand and arm, and the other hand is rosy white!
Finally: if Ukraine would really want to find out what happened they would secure the scene and ask the Red Cross and the International Criminal Court to send in a forensics team. That is what the German Wehrmacht did when they found Katyn with ca. 50,000 dead Polish civilians and military, killed by the Soviet NKVD.
But do not hold your breath: in the case of Katyn it took almost 50 years, until the fall of the Soviet Union, for the world to recognize that Katyn was the crime of the Bolsheviks and not of the Germans. It took an admission from officials of the former Soviet Union to set the record straight.

Ukraine, through its Jewish oligarch clans and their organized crime networks, is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children trafficked transnationally for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor.

The soldier said he keeps the biography—a Ukrainian-language translation of the 2009 book Golda by Elinor Burkett—alongside his night-vision device, water, and hat.
“This is my favorite book,” he said. “I take it with me even if it will be my last battle.”
The soldier, who is not Jewish, said he is a Ukrainian patriot—and “I think that Ukraine have [to] say thanks to Jewish people.”
In fact, Meir has become something of an icon among Ukrainian leaders who are eager to claim her as a native daughter, according to a 2018 report in the Jerusalem Post. Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire when she lived there.
“The loose connection Meir had to Ukraine was enough for the [Ukrainian] state to embrace her as ‘one of our own,’” Eli Belotserkovsky, then Israel’s ambassador to Ukraine, told the newspaper.
“Today Ukrainian-Israeli relations are marked by a great deal of friendship and will to work together. When Ukrainian leaders mark the contributions Ukrainian Jews made to the creation of the [Israeli] state one of the first names to be brought up is Meir. This is a major turn of history as the place little Meir ran away from now, 120 years later, warmly embraces her.”
Like Zelensky, Meir became renowned for the way she laid out her country’s predicament among its neighbors to her countrymen and to the world.

Ukraine will become a “‘big Israel’ with its own face,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared on Tuesday, indicating that his country intends to emulate the Israeli security state in the wake of Russia’s invasion.
“Ukraine will definitely not be what we wanted it to be from the beginning. It is impossible. Absolutely liberal, European – it will not be like that. It [Ukraine] will definitely come from the strength of every house, every building, every person,” Zelenskyy told members of the Ukrainian media during a briefing.
“We will become a ‘big Israel’ with its own face. We will not be surprised if we have representatives of the Armed Forces or the National Guard in cinemas, supermarkets, and people with weapons. I am confident that the question of security will be the issue number one for the next 10 years. I am sure of it.”
However, such measures would not serve to undercut Ukrainian democracy, he added, declaring that “an authoritarian state is impossible in Ukraine.”
“An authoritarian state would lose to Russia. People know what they are fighting for,” he said.
Such language is “not new,” Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky told Haaretz, stating that the Jewish state has “always been a role model for Ukraine, at least in terms of security and self-protection.”
“Israelis have lived surrounded by enemies for all of their history and Ukraine will be doing the same,” Ukrainian Ambassador Yevgen Korniychuk told Haaretz following Zelenskyy’s comments, declaring that Kyiv did not feel that it could rely on international security guarantees, such as those it received from the West after its 1994 nuclear disarmament.
“Now we have to retain much bigger armed forces against our two neighboring states and that’s why our leadership currently sees that, no matter what happens next, [things] in Ukraine will be similar to the security situation in Israel. You will see more armed people in the streets, even when things become more peaceful than they are now.”
Last December, as Russia was massing troops on the Ukrainian border, Zelenskyy more explicitly compared his nation’s current struggle against Russia to Israel’s decades-long conflict with its Arab neighbors.
In a pre-recorded address at the Kyiv Jewish Forum, an annual conference organized by the Ukrainian Jewish community, Zelenskyy, who is Jewish himself, said that Israel is “often an example for Ukraine” and that “both Ukrainians and Jews value freedom,” working “equally for the future of our states to become to our liking, and not the future which others want for us.”
Zelenskyy had ‘higher expectations’ of Israel
Zelenskyy has been highly critical of Israel’s approach to the war, his ambassador to Israel telling reporters several days into the invasion that the president, as a Jew, “has much higher expectations of Israel than Israel can deliver.”
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Israel has carefully walked a diplomatic tightrope in an attempt to comply with American demands to speak out against Russia’s actions while simultaneously avoiding alienating Moscow – which allows the Israeli Air Force to carry out strikes against Iranian targets in Syria.
Zelenskyy brushed aside those concerns during a remote address to the Knesset last month, demanding that Israel arm his country and remove limits on Ukrainian immigration imposed since the invasion.
“What is this? Apathy? Calculations? Or mediation without taking a side? I’ll let you answer that question, but I want to point out that apathy kills, calculations can be incorrect. You can mediate between countries, but not between good and evil,” he said.
Zelenskyy’s speech drew a harsh condemnation from Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who objected to his Ukrainian counterpart’s use of rhetoric comparing Russian actions to those of the Nazis, stating that “it is forbidden to compare anything to the Holocaust.”
Ukrainian leaders have described Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians as genocide but, until recently, Israel has been reluctant to speak out against Russian actions.
Civilian killings in Bucha
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett condemned on Tuesday the “terrible sights in Bucha,” though refused to mention Russia specifically.
Asked by an interviewer at the Israeli public broadcaster Kan whether he “calls the massacre in Bucha a war crime” or whether “he sees Russia as responsible,” Bennett replied: “We are of course shocked by the harsh sights at Bucha, terrible sights and we strongly condemn them.”
On Monday afternoon, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid condemned the killings in Bucha revealed after Russian troops retreated from the capital region.
“It is impossible to remain indifferent in the face of the horrific images from the city of Bucha near Kyiv, from after the Russian army left. Intentionally harming a civilian population is a war crime and I strongly condemn it,” Lapid tweeted, several hours after a spokesman said that a previous statement by Ambassador Brodsky accusing Russia of war crimes did not represent the foreign ministry’s official position.
While Moscow denies targeting civilians and rejects war crimes allegations, locals said the dead in Bucha were civilians killed by departing Russian soldiers without provocation. According to Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk, more than 300 residents had been killed.
A video uploaded to Twitter by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, which termed the city the “new Srebrenica,” showed bodies strewn across Bucha’s streets.
Asked for comment, a spokesperson for the Russian embassy in Tel Aviv pointed Haaretz to a Telegram post by the Russian Defense Ministry denouncing “fake” reports of civilian casualties in Bucha and claiming bodies in one video —which it deemed “staged footage”— “seem to have been deliberately laid out to create a more dramatic picture.”
Despite this claim having been debunked by several media outlets, including Bellingcat and the BBC, Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman said Monday that Russia and Ukraine have been exchanging “mutual accusations,” but that Israel condemns “all war crimes.”
The United Nations said on Monday that it has recorded 3,527 civilian casualties in Ukraine as of April 3, although the “actual toll is much higher.”

Casualties feared after alleged Ukrainian chemical plant attack

Retreating Ukrainian forces have allegedly blown up a tank allegedly containing hydrochloric acid, at a chemical plant in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) town of Rubezhnoe, which has emerged as a flashpoint in the ongoing military conflict.
The tank explosion was aimed at a populated area, controlled by local fighters, the LPR’s militia claimed on Tuesday.
“[These] terrorist actions might lead to mass civilian casualties,” the force warned on its Telegram channel, adding that authorities are currently collecting information about any casualties resulting from the incident.
The LPR has also accused Ukrainian media of “actively spreading fakes” that Donbass fighters had blown up the tank themselves. They said Kiev has been doing this in order to cover up “the criminal terrorist actions” of its own forces.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Kiev-nominated governor of Lugansk, Sergey Gaidai, stated in his Telegram channel that a Russian projectile had hit a nitric acid tank in the area, and called on local residents to stay indoors and close all doors and windows, as well as to prepare wet face masks.
“Nitric acid is dangerous if inhaled or swallowed,” he warned. It is unclear if he was referring to the same incident or to a different one. Ukrainian authorities have not commented on the allegations leveled by the Donbass militias so far. Neither have Russian officials or the country’s military.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the ‘Zarya’ chemical plant, once one of Ukraine’s leading chemical enterprises. Videos reportedly taken at the scene and published by the RIA news agency show thick, orange-tinged smoke billowing over the area, which has some residential buildings.
The plant has storage facilities for sulfuric and hydrochloric acid. When released into the atmosphere, strong hydrochloric acid might produce a toxic fog affecting people’s eyes and airways. If mixed with various oxidizers like potassium permanganate, it releases highly toxic chlorine gas.
In early March, Moscow warned the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) about potential false-flag attacks staged by the Ukrainian radicals that might involve the use of toxic chemical agents.
“Ukrainian radical groups aided by the American security services have developed several potential scenarios of using toxic chemicals to stage various false flag attacks,” Russia’s statement to the OPCW said at that time.
